Rally 'Round the Engine

Depression has set in for many area children, as school has already started, or will start following this weekend. The poor little buggers don't know where the time went, and the parents couldn't be more relieved to have them out of the house. But, being parents, they're sympathetic even as they're inwardly gloating. So if you have a down-in-the-dumps kid and you want to put a smile on that little face, make time for the Great Fire Engine Rally under the Gateway Arch from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Kids love fire engines for their size, their color and the sirens, and all of that will be on display in the 10 a.m. parade of fire trucks, hook and ladders, pumpers, ambulances, and related equipment. Vehicle demonstrations begin at noon, there's an all-day flea market and kids village, and the rally wraps up at 5 p.m. with a dignified closing ceremony. And admission is free, which is sure to put a smile on Mom and Dad's faces. For more information visit www.greatfirerally.com.
