Restaurant Road Trip

Fast Eddie's

With gas prices headed into the stratosphere, the idea of going on a road trip for a meal suddenly doesn't seem quite so appetizing - at least, not unless Fast Eddie's is at the end of your journey. Located in Alton, the place is just far enough away for you to build up an appetite for one of their famous "Big Elwood" kebabs, peel 'n' eat shrimp, or a "Fat Eddie" hamburger -- none of which will set you back much more than a gallon of regular unleaded. The atmosphere is great, too, with live music, kitschy memorabilia on the walls, and even a popcorn cart. Fast Eddie's has been around for more than 80 years. It's worth the drive to find out why.
