Benoit Denizet-Lewis' Travels With Casey is a new book about dogs and America and the deep bond the two enjoy with one another. If that title rings a Pavlovian bell, it's because it takes inspiration from John Steinbeck's Travels With Charley (another book about America and a dog). Subtitled "My Journey Through Our Dog-Crazy Country," the book is exactly that, and a bit more. Turns out Casey the Labrador is moody and somewhat neurotic, while his human counterpart the author is insecure. Denizet-Lewis' story involves the therapeutic synergy between canines and people and how that love connection manifests itself around this great country of ours. Tonight at 6 p.m. at Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com), you can meet Denizet-Lewis, get his book signed and play with adoptable dogs provided by Stray Rescue of St. Louis, which benefits from a portion of the proceeds. $35 gets you admission plus one copy of Travels.
