The American rodeo is full of known quantities: bull-riding, calf-roping, clown-fearing (OK, maybe thats just us). This weekend, the rodeo includes those feats of cowpoke derring-do -- plus parties, contests and a whole lotta money donated to worthy charities. Far more fab than the typical heterodeo, the second annual Gateway Regional Rodeo
, presented by the Gateway Gay Rodeo Association at the National Equestrian Center (6880 Lake St. Louis Boulevard, Lake St. Louis), emphasizes sportsmanship, open-mindedness and generosity. The rodeo officially begins Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at the equestrian center -- but you wont want to miss Thursday evenings pub crawl or the Friday-night kick-off party at Magnolias Night Club (May 3 and 4). And after Saturdays festivities (including a Sheep Scramble for both adults and kids), head back to Mags for more dancing and socializing. Rodeo events resume at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, with an awards banquet at 7 p.m. in the equestrian centers Arena Banquet Room. Following the ceremony, join your newfound friends for another (!) party at Magnolias. Tickets are $15 per day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $25.
