The American rodeo is full of known quantities: bull-riding, calf-roping, clown-fearing (OK, maybe thats just us). This weekend, the rodeo includes those feats of cowpoke derring-do -- plus parties, contests and a whole lotta money donated to worthy charities. Far more fab than the typical heterodeo, the second annual Gateway Regional Rodeo, presented by the Gateway Gay Rodeo Association at the National Equestrian Center (6880 Lake St. Louis Boulevard, Lake St. Louis), emphasizes sportsmanship, open-mindedness and generosity. The rodeo officially begins Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at the equestrian center -- but you wont want to miss Thursday evenings pub crawl or the Friday-night kick-off party at Magnolias Night Club (May 3 and 4). And after Saturdays festivities (including a Sheep Scramble for both adults and kids), head back to Mags for more dancing and socializing. Rodeo events resume at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, with an awards banquet at 7 p.m. in the equestrian centers Arena Banquet Room. Following the ceremony, join your newfound friends for another (!) party at Magnolias. Tickets are $15 per day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $25. For more information (including a complete schedule -- we dont have room to list all the fun!) or to buy tickets, visit www.gwgra.com or call 314-795-7744.
