Though 2019 is right around the corner now, it felt like a far-off galaxy in 1987 when dystopian science-fiction movie The Running Man hit theaters. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Ben Richards, a police officer wrongfully convicted of a crime. Richards escapes the work camp where he is held in search of his brother, only to find that his brother's apartment is occupied by Amber Mendez, who works for the government television channel called the Network. The Network's biggest hit is a gladiator-style game show hosted by Damon Killian (Richard Dawson) in which contestants are convicted criminals (called runners) who are loosed into a massive cityscape and chased by stalkers. Guess who's gonna be the next big thing on the show? The Strange Brew film series presents The Running Man as an early Christmas gift. 8 p.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). $5.
