So Close, So Far

Ten years ago Stray Dog Theatre staged its first show, John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation. The company remounts the play to cap its first decade of work, and to point the way towards the next ten years. Six Degrees follows the colliding lives of two New York couples, the ritzy Kittredges and the closer-to-the-bone Rick and Elizabeth. The man causing the colliding is Paul, a con man who claims to be the son of a Broadway director (to the Kittredges), and the son of the Kittredges (to Rick and Elizabeth). Paul moves from person to person offering hope and promises, but brings strife and turmoil instead. And yet if we're all connected to each other by a chain of just six people, shouldn't some of that trauma rebound on him eventually? Six Degrees of Separation is performed at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (June 6 through 22) at the Tower Grove Abbey (2336 Tennessee Avenue; 314-865-1995 or www.straydogtheatre.org). Tickets are $18 to $20.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 6. Continues through June 22, 2013
