With a regrettable band name and an intimidating amount of blog-buzz accompanying its early releases, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin should have ended up as another Dogs Die in Hot Cars or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. But the Springfield, Missouri, quartet overcame these odds, thanks to pure-pop harmonies and catchy, genteel song craft. The just-released Let It Sway does what all good third albums do: It crystallizes the band's strengths and, thanks to Chris Walla's production, preserves the hook-heavy guitar interplay and choir-boy vocals. SSLYBY will share the stage with Seattle's Telekinesis, the brainchild of Michael Benjamin Lerner, whose pop smarts and fuzzy power-pop chord progression will make the show a must-see for fans of magnetic, nice-guy indie rock.
