Spare (for) the Rhinos

Just thinking about all the endangered species of animals around the world can lead to the worst feeling of hopelessness. Where and how to even start to do anything meaningful? When it comes to the mere five species of rhinos remaining on planet Earth (that number used to be 100-plus, to give you an idea of the sort of stark decline we're talking about), you can help them and have fun at the same time. Tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., roll some strikes, spares or gutter rockets and further the cause of rhino conservation at Bowling for Rhinos at Tropicana Lanes (7960 Clayton Road, Clayton; 314-781-0282 or www.stlzoo.org/animals/soyouwanttobeazookeeper/americanassociationofzooke/bowlingforrhinos.htm). All the proceeds from tonight's bowling, raffles and a silent auction go to help fund three critically needed rhinoceros-conservation areas in Africa and Indonesia. Registration is $25 per person in advance or at the door, space permitting. Even if you spend more bowling time polishing the gutters than you do obliterating pins, you'll still be doing right by the rhinos.
