Stereoscopic Journey

Since leaving St. Louis eighteen years ago, Amy Granat has become an internationally recognized and respected artist who has, among other things, placed work in the 2008 Whitney Museum Biennial exhibition. White Flag Projects hosts a free screening of T.S.O.Y.W., her film collaboration with Drew Heitzler from that exhibition, at 7 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City). Based on Goethe's novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, the film chronicles a lone young man on a motorcycle riding aimlessly through the Southwest not in search of love, but for some glimpse into the meaning of life. His journey takes him to Joshua Tree State Park in California, Robert Smithson's earthworks art Spiral Jetty, and a defunct cowboy church, all appearing on side-by-side screens showing two different viewpoints. For more details on the screening or on Granat's ongoing exhibition at White Flag Projects, call the gallery at 314-531-3442 or visit the website at www.whiteflagprojects.org.
