Storytime's All Grown Up

The creature comforts bestowed on children are enviable and, unfortunately, are usually unappreciated until they've aged beyond them. Do you remember getting “bored,” or being treated like royalty because you came down with the sniffles? Some lucky kids were also read to on a nightly basis, as the bedtime story is a strategic form of parent-child blackmail -- “I'll read you two stories if you take your medicine/go to sleep/promise to stop coloring on the walls.” The River Styx Reading Series celebrates the simple joy of listening to beautifully written words read aloud, only this party's for grown folks. Tonight at Duff's (392 North Euclid Avenue; 314-361-0522) poets Alison Pelegrin and Marc McKee will join forces for a night of living literature. The two prize-winning wordsmiths have several published collections, years of experience and quite a few prizes between them, and are prepared to lull you into deep, literary reverie beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Admission is $4 to $5; visit for details.
