Super Bowl Sunday. You may have heard of it (there was a brief, almost inaudible "buzz" about the game on television airwaves, or so we've read). If you're interested in that sort of thing, you already know what you're doing today: getting up at 2:45 a.m. to catch the distant-early-warning-pre-pre-game show, then sitting through hours of detailed analysis of what could possibly happen on the field if certain stars align properly, then sometime after 7 p.m. the Big Game itself begins, interspersed with hours of commercial analysis, and finally, sometime early next week, the game wraps up. This is the Oscars for heterosexuals, and we say let them have it.
For others this is a chance to enjoy a quiet Sunday doing, well, almost anything that doesn't relate even tangentially to football. If you still long to watch TV, you can head to Frederick's Music Lounge (4454 Chippewa Street; 314-351-5711) at 5 p.m., where Fred hosts his fifth annual Super Bowl Sunday Looney Toons Laserdisc Marathon. Admission is free, and cartoons are awesome.
Or you can trek out to Petropolis (16830 Chesterfield Airport Road, Chesterfield), where knitters of all skill levels meet at 2 p.m. to knit blankets at the Knit 'n Purl for Pets Knitting Workshop. You need to purchase your own needles and yarn, but advice and hints from members of the Greater St. Louis Knitters' Guild are free, and the warm, fuzzy feelings you experience from helping warm, fuzzy pets is priceless (call 636-537-2322, extension 28, to reserve a spot). -- Paul Friswold

Cory "The Next Generation" Spinks and Zab "Super" Judah traded punches last April in Las Vegas, and St. Louis' own Spinks walked away the undisputed welterweight champion three times over -- he holds belts for the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation sanctioning bodies. Spinks' lengthy moniker says a lot; Leon and Michael Spinks are his father and uncle, respectively. But once you're the champ, you've got to defend your title, and that's just what Spinks does at the Savvis Center (14th Street and Clark Avenue) in a rematch with Judah. The bout is Showtime pay-per-view big and produced by malaprop-activist Don King, who'll be on hand to reap the benefits no matter who wins.
