Swim with the Fishes

The ocean, she is a vastly different world just teeming with creatures large and small. Some of these swimmers are ones with which we are familiar, but even more are crazy foreign, and crazy looking. To get a better idea of what's going on beneath the surface of the sea — and to clear your mind of any SpongeBob SquarePants or The Little Mermaid misconceptions — head to the Saint Louis Science Center's OMNIMAX Theater (5050 Oakland Avenue) for a screening of Under the Sea. Narrated by Jim Carrey, this film explores faraway oceans and shows us a world we could never imagine from our landlocked position or even from our sandy beach towels. Under the Sea opens Friday, January 15, and showtimes vary (it screens at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Monday, January 18). Tickets to take the plunge cost $7 to $8; call 314-289-4424 or visit www.slsc.org to make a purchase.
