Ted Leo

9 pm. Sunday, May 8. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue.

As a member of Chisel and the leader of current band the Pharmacists, proud New Jerseyan Ted Leo has built a near-peerless reputation for integrity and rugged survival. He's been compared to Elvis Costello and Joe Strummer, both in his pop-punk songwriting style and his lyrical mix of the personal and political. But he's not above having fun. The Pharmacists once wrote and performed a complete song, "The World Is in the Terlet," based on listeners' phoned-in lyrics live on Tom Scharpling's weekly radio show, and its video for "Bottled in Cork," from the Pharmacists' most recent album, The Brutalist Bricks, is a riotous parody of an American Idiot-like jukebox musical. Leo, who is performing solo on this tour, makes his first St. Louis appearace since 2007.
