The Cool Tour

4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

Typically, Warped Tour has had the market cornered on the all-day summer festival for the disaffected. But the inaugural edition of this year's metal-leaning Cool Tour is relying on some of Warped's recent heavy hitters to help narrow that attendance gap. While the eight-band bill is spearheaded by Christian metalcore giants As I Lay Dying and Underoath, don't think that concertgoers will be forced to worship to earn their breakdowns. Math-metal geniuses Between the Buried and Me and Black Flag acolytes Cancer Bats are the furthest thing from Bible-thumping bands and give the Cool Tour a well-needed dose of, well, coolness. Only time will tell if the package tour returns for a second go 'round, but with a debut lineup this solid, here's to hoping for many happy returns.
