The Life and Times

9 p.m. Friday, December 8. Off Broadway (3509 Lemp Avenue).

The Life and Times' just-released The Magician fits more intriguing twists into its 22 minutes than many bands boast in their entire discographies. Allen Epley's guitar spits feedback fuzz and surges like quick-passing highway traffic. Chris Metcalf's drums hiss and rattle during the verses, then detonate in conjunction with Eric Abert's baleful basslines during pulsing, wall-of-sound climaxes. Friday's show provides fans with a rare opportunity to hear these songs live, because EP tracks tend to disappear on future tours.
