St. Louis' newest venue the Ready Room made its debut April 2, 2014, with an impressive show by headliner Of Montreal and opening acts Ortolan and the Gateway City's own Middle Class Fashion. Working diligently, the Ready Room staff installed finishing touches on the 800-capacity space until showtime.
"Is that a ten-gallon hat or are you just enjoying the show?" For Blazing Saddles and burlesque fans at the Ready Room, the answer surely was the latter. The Randy Dandies spoofed Mel Brooks' famous film during "Blazing Tassels! Dirty Tales of the Old Wild West" April 19, 2014. Some images NSFW.
Longtime alt-rockers the Dandy Warhols performed at the Ready Room May 8, 2014, drawing an enthusiastic crowd that grew up listening the band in the '90s. St. Louisans weren't the only ones impressed with the Dandies, though -- Wolfmother, which performed May 6 at the Pageant, also caught the show. The Warlocks opened the evening with crowd-pleasing shoegaze.
The 2014 RFT Music Showcase was full of firsts -- first time in the Grove neighborhood, first time that a record-setting 88+ bands performed, first time that a downpour and multiple tornado warnings threatened to halt the event. The sun and good tunes prevailed, though, and thousands of St. Louis music lovers got down to performances by Black Panties, Nato Caliph, Middle Class Fashion, Last to Show First to Go and many more on June 7, 2014.
Winners of the 2014 RFT Music Awards will be announced Tuesday, June 10, at Atomic Cowboy and on rftmusic.com. The event features live performances by St. Louis artists and is free and open to the public.

For fans, it was hard to say goodbye. For Anberlin, it simply was time. Performing at the Ready Room on November 4, 2014, the Florida rock band dazzled St. Louis with good tunes and a spectacular light show during its final tour before its members call it quits. Multiple iterations of the band's lineup have been working together since 2012.
St. Louis-based prog-alt-rock band Greek Fire opened the evening, with vocalist Philip Sneed wearing an Anberlin shirt and congratulating his grandparents -- who were in the audience -- on their anniversary.

Shaggy brought his thrust-inducing Jamaican-fusion sounds to the Ready Room on November 19, 2014, but not without a hiccup. RFT photographer Micah Usher reports that Shaggy's tour bus broke down en route to the show, slightly delaying things and sending some anxious fans to the nearby Taháa Twisted Tiki Bar to pass the time. But once Shaggy arrived, "Mr. Boombastic" pumped up the crowd with energetic dance moves and spirited tunes.
Sci-fi sauciness was the theme of the night when the Randy Dandies presented "Serentitty" on November 22, 2014, at the Ready Room. With a central story built around Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity, the burlesque troupe also nodded to Futurama, Spaceballs, Star Trek, Star Wars and other delightful nerdy favorites.
