The Revenge of Project Comic Con

The San Diego Comic-Con is the biggest and best-known comic-book convention (meaning people who don't read comics know it exists), but it's by no means the only one you could attend. NewCastle Comics & Games presents Project: Comic Con 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday (September 18 and 19) at the Maryland Heights Centre (2344 McKelvey Road, Maryland Heights; www.projectcomiccon.com) — and that's right here in town. Professional guests include Fred Van Lente, Gary Friedrich, Phil Hester, Adam Kubert (Saturday only) and personal favorite Howard Chaykin (Everybody should read Ironwolf. Do it now.). Top Cow Productions and Avatar Press will be conducting portfolio reviews for those aspiring to enter the business, and both companies will accept submissions. And if you're interested in attending just to grow your own hoard, there will be a large contingent of vendors selling comics — and that is the best possible reason to go to any con. Admission is $12 for a day pass or $20 for the weekend.
