TheSTART

theSTART is one of those bands that probably would be bigger if it had any interest in sticking to one niche or pandering to the masses. However, die-hard fans of the LA synthpop group probably consider its ability to migrate from punchy pop-punk to industrial-influenced dance numbers a strength. In fact, vocalist Aimee Echo and company have only kept one constant throughout the years: a hyperactive, sweat-drenched live show. Whereas much of theSTART's recorded output relies heavily on a post-industrial rhythm-section pulse, Chelsea Davis' drumming in the live setting is a force to be reckoned with. Although often playing along to synth tracks and beats, Davis hits hard and pushes and pulls against the metronomic punches. Plus, she's the perfect complement to Echo's theatrics and natural frontwoman charisma.
