They Know They Can Dance

COCA brings the cool

You caught one of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performances last weekend, right? That choreography was amazing, yes? Wish you could see more? Just get over to the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or www.cocastl.org) this weekend for Synergy, the center’s 2008 spring repertory concert. During this show student dance company COCAdance performs a work created by AAADT’s Kirven J. Boyd and Antonio Douthit, the latter of whom is a COCA alum — how cool! Plus, Ballet Eclectica, another student company at COCA, shows its stuff with choreography by Thaddeus Davis, a rising star in the dance universe. Additional pieces are performed by each group to further demonstrate what the students have learned throughout the year, and you can catch the whole show if you just buy a ticket ($10 to $15) by calling 314-534-1111 or visiting www.metrotix.com. Things get synergistic at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (April 18 through 20).
