This Week

Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman: jazz composers whose music doesn't just call for but demands that somebody get up and dance. Choreographer Danny Buraczeski has responded to that call/demand with his company, Jazzdance, in ways that have expanded both forms of jazz expression, music and dance, so much so that the Village Voice labeled him "the country's most sophisticated jazz maker." Dance St. Louis brings Buraczeski's Minneapolis-based company to the Edison Theatre this weekend for performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2. Call 965-6543, 534-6622 or 534-1111 for tickets.
