As far as homage goes, Uh Huh Her could have done a lot worse than to name itself after a PJ Harvey album. But the band name's signifiers — guttural, alliterative sensuality — are clarified not through Harvey's style of raw, guitar-led exorcisms but a clean, danceable strain of electro-pop not unlike the first Metric album. The band's two female leads, Camila Grey and Leisha Hailey, have different kinds of pop-culture cred: Grey has played bass and keys for Dr. Dre and Adam Lambert, and Hailey starred in The L Word. But together, the ladies of Uh Huh Her make emotionally resonant and coolly seductive songs with a retro edge that never seems too dull.
