Where the Gruffalo Roam

Whoever first claimed "might makes right" never heard tell of the mouse in Julia Donaldson's children's book The Gruffalo. Though the mouse's size keeps him low on the forest food chain, his quick wit and cunning scares off predators with tall-tales of his buddy the Gruffalo, a fearsome grizzly bear and buffalo hybrid. This is an effective front story till the mouse, much to his dismay, finds himself face-to-face with a real, live, hungry Gruffalo. Find out how he gets out of this jarring jam when the UK's Tall Stories theater company presents a live-action, family-friendly adaptation of The Gruffalo at Founders Theatre at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or www.cocastl.org). Performances are at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday and at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday (February 23 and 24). Tickets range in price from $16 to $20.
