British phenomenon Doctor Who is 50 years old in 2013, but riddle me this: Can't a Time Lord with the ability to traverse time and space celebrate his birthday wherever and whenever he wants? Yeah, it's a puzzler. Regardless, the James S. McDonnell Planetarium at the Saint Louis Science Center is also 50 years old, so tonight both Doctor Who and the Planetarium are feted at First Friday: The Science of Doctor Who. At 8 p.m. Dr. Andy Howell (host of Known Universe on the National Geographic Channel) presents a serious discussion entitled "The Science and Science Fiction of Time: From Spacetime to the TARDIS" as the keynote of this Who/Planetarium party. Also on the bill are "Timey-Wimey: The Science of the Doctor" (a demonstration on the nature of black holes at 6:30 p.m.), free telescope viewings on the Archery Field, and at 10 p.m., select episodes of Doctor Who screen in the OMNIMAX Theater. Admission is free.
