Word Up

Words, words, words -- perhaps to you, this newspaper (or website) contains nothing more. But to kids who may struggle to express themselves, gaining power over words can make for a life-changing experience. StudioSTL helps children as they develop their writing chops and learn to share their stories on paper, supporting often unheard points of view and offering a healing outlet for difficult times. The power of words is strong -- and so is the power of Boggle. If you believe in helping kids, and in your abilities to win word games, don't miss StudioSTL's WordFEST, held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Saint Louis University's DuBourg Hall (221 North Grand Boulevard). At this fundraiser, teams of eight compete while playing games such as Boggle and Word Darts, and completing crossword puzzles and word finds. Feel free to bring your own brain food and drinks, though some snacks are provided, and note that there are prizes for the teams with the best costumes and table decorations. Participation costs $25 per person; to learn more and to sign up (do it quickly before the event sells out!), visit www.studiostl.org.
