YMCA

Legend has it that when the Downtown YMCA held its dedication in 1926, the key was thrown directly into the Mississippi River so that its doors would never close. In its original incarnation, the ten-story building houses everything from a tailor shop and cafeteria to lounges and libraries. Today, the facilities don't take up as many floors but feature an indoor lap pool, a full-sized gymnasium, a computer lab, an indoor golf driving range and a youth and family community room complete with billiards -- and that's not all. Like its brother and sister locations, YMCA doesn't just feature fitness facilities. It's a meeting ground for classes, community get-togethers and more.
