Taylor Swift Announces Theatrical Release

Swifties are back to doing what they do best: breaking the internet. This time they’re driving the AMC website to the brink instead of Ticketmaster, because Taylor Swift has announced that she’s turning her impending album release into a full cinematic experience. The Life of a Showgirl drops on October 3, and if you’re lucky, you might just score a ticket to The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

TSwift’s impending album will be her 12th studio album. The Life of a Showgirl will release on October 3, aligned with the theatrical event The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Because Mother never simply drops an album anymore, she unearths a whole experience.

A whole horde of fans are chomping at the bit to make sure they get to partake in said experience, because within just a few hours of the announcement the AMC site was overloaded. Swifties are treating this limited release the same way they did the Eras Tour. Multiple tabs open on multiple devices, group chats popping off, and people fighting for their lives in the digital trenches. Even Fandango is a little antsy.

If you’re wondering what’s included in the theatrical event, well. There’s a lot to look forward to! The premiere of The Fate of Ophelia music video, for one thing. Behind-the-scenes footage of the creation of The Life of a Showgirl, for another. There will be lyric videos to sing along with in theaters, plus Taylor’s personal commentary (think: director’s cut meets Taylor’s diary). And in case you were worried about whether singing and dancing are frowned upon… spectators are encouraged to sing, dance, scream, cry, throw up, and basically do anything that doesn’t involve being an asshole or blocking a fire exit.

There are a few things we don’t know yet about this whole shindig. Who’s directing? Taylor herself? A mystery filmmaker? No idea. International roll-out details still haven’t been fully shared, and Easter eggs? We know TayTay loves nothing more than giving her fandom a reason to play advance I Spy with her content.

To say that people are excited is putting things… very mildly. Remember the sold-out Eras Tour? The crammed stadiums, the impossible tickets, and the resale site chaos? Well, the AMC website is already on the struggle bus, because AMC theaters in the U.S. have dibs on this one. Tickets are only $12, which is practically a song compared to what fans had to pay for the Eras experience. Swifties are treating this whole thing like the second coming of Avengers: Endgame, and may I just say CAN YOU BLAME US?!?!

Taylor is once again showing the world that she isn’t just an artist, she’s a whole damn economy. AMC really should have invested in building Swift-specific servers, but oh well. Will The Life of a Showgirl break the box office before it even breaks the charts? I’m not a betting person, but I might just take that bet.
