Soundstage Productions is a "reader's theatre" company, meaning it mounts staged readings of plays, accented with projected photos and the occasional prop or bit of costuming to enhance the experience. It's a more effective method of storytelling than you might anticipate because it's a very pure form of storytelling; a good actor with a great voice can conjure a world of feeling, especially if you're an active listener. So how would the classic musical fit the reader's theatre mold? Only one way to find out — Soundstage presents ...At Last, a new musical written by Leona Ernst and Laura Ernst. The plot concerns a young man's efforts to rise above his past, and it features fifteen original songs. ...At Last is performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday (March 13 through 22), at the Regional Arts Commission Center (6128 Delmar Boulevard). Visit www.soundstageproductions.net or call 314-968-8070 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. for tickets, which are $8.
