Women love a man in uniform, but Marie loves an entire regiment. A foundling adopted by a jaunty French company, Marie now supports her troop as a canteen girl and mascot. She has a special love for Tonio, who sadly is not a member of the coterie — that's a problem, because Marie is only allowed to wed a man who belongs to the regiment. Compounding her problem is the Marquise, a noblewoman who claims to be her long-lost aunt and now wants to rehabilitate her rough and mannish ways, the better to marry her off to a wealthy peer.
