A Tale of Winter

Eric Rohmer's wry sense of humor surfaced often in his taste for subverting cliches. In A Tale of Winter, the inimitably great French director casts winter as the season of renewal. A young couple, Charles and Felicie, meet while on a wintertime holiday to a warm beach. They fall in love and have to part, and then she gives him the wrong home address; consequently Charles disappears from her life. We skip five years into the future and Felicie is working as a hairdresser in the Paris suburbs. She's juggling two lovers but can't commit to either one -- the memory of Charles prevents it. Will destiny throw him into her path once again? Cinema St. Louis and Webster University's Film Series present A Tale of Winter as part of the Classic French Film Series.
