New York may have better public transportation systems and superior signature pizza, but St. Louis has the park situation locked down. It's easy to take that massive, gorgeous, Roller-Blader filled sea of green for granted, but our Forest Park is a unique gem, covering a whopping 1,371 acres (Central Park's a measly 843) and providing a home to a municipal theater house, museums, a golf course and so many ducks. If you'd like to delve further into its significance and history (without walking the entire expanse in 106 degree heat), swing by Forest Park's Visitor and Education Center for a Forest Park: Then & Now Walking Tour. A volunteer will guide visitors on an hourlong, one-and-a-half mile tour through the finest park in the world (of course, we might be somewhat biased). The tours are free and open to the public (including leashed pets) and begin at 10 a.m. This is your last chance until next year's batch of tours, so don't hesitate.
