Playwright Diana Son bends time and space in Stop Kiss, jumbling the incidents in the burgeoning relationship between Callie, a bored-with-the-job NYC traffic reporter, and Sara, a teacher and recent transplant to the city. The facts of the women’s shared life -- they meet, become friends, share a public kiss, and one of them is beaten into a coma by a homophobe -- are shaken up and thrown back to the audience non-sequentially, so that we know that the violence occurs before we understand why it happened, or even know the depths of Callie and Sara’s bond. That’s how life is, however; we read about an attack and find out the bare facts of the victim’s life without knowing who they really are. In Stop Kiss, the violence is intertwined with the a growing sense of each woman’s identity and humanity. The University of Missouri-St. Louis Department of Theatre, Dance and Media Studies presents Stop Kiss at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (February 3 through 12), with a 3 p.m. performance on Sunday, February 6, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org).
