Don Giovanni is the original lovable douchebag. He seduces and abandons every woman he encounters, and he makes his servant, Leporello, maintain a list of every conquest because it makes him feel important. The recently dumped Elvira still wants him back, but he's waging a two-front war; first, he'd like to make the beautiful Anna No. 2001 on the list, but ends up killing her father in a duel instead. He also has plans for the recently married Zerlina. Can anyone or anything stop this utter bastard from using women? Mozart's Don Giovanni ends with a most statuesque hero saving the day from the depredations of this charming rake. Opera Theatre of Saint Louis opens its 2011 season with Don Giovanni at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21, and performs it again at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road; 314-961-0644 or www.opera-stl.org). The show is performed seven more times in repertory, and always in English. Tickets are $25 to $120.
