Art History

Is it history? Or is it art? When it comes to artifacts that can help us both understand and appreciate a culture, why should we have to make a distinction? We don't, at least during the Missouri History Museum's (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org) new exhibit. Splendid Heritage: Perspectives on American Indian Art features more than 149 objects representing the indigenous people of the Plains, Plateau and the Northeast. Instead of approaching these objects from a strictly cultural or artistic interpretation, the exhibit hopes to tell a more complete history through the combination of the two points of view. Splendid Heritage will be on display daily from Saturday, February 12, through Sunday, April 24. Tickets are $5 to $8.
