Art Unbottled

Sep 8, 2010 at 4:00 am
Even the most abstract art seems approachable when the critical eye refocuses thanks to a few beers under the belt. The Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood) takes art out of the stuffy, bottled-up confines of the gallery and pours it into laps of the everyman with Art Outside, a weekend-long festival celebrating local artists and accompanied by live music, feel-good food and liberal libations. Participating artists deliver something for every taste, whether you're into the wondrous woodwork of Paul Zerjay; the otherworldly illustrations of Mark Sheppard; the wild, webby-weavings of painter Sarah Giannobile; or the precious plush of April Tate's imaginary friends come to life. Art Outside is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday (September 10 through 12). Admission is free.
