Art With a Side of Lunch

Something to chew on

Perhaps you treat yourself at lunchtime by getting away from the office and getting your hands on the most recent RFT (here's hoping that's what you do, anyway). Today, why not take your midday break a step further, say, out to Gallery 210 on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road)? There, artist Bale Creek Allen discusses his recent work, which is currently on display in the gallery through Saturday, March 21. Bale Creek Allen: Selected Works from Empire and Tumbleweeds and Tire Treads opened on Thursday, January 22, and the show includes taxidermied snakes and tumbleweed sculptures — those pieces will definitely make for very interesting lunchtime conversation topics! The free talk is part of the university's Monday Noon Series (call 314-516-5699 or visit www.umsl.edu/ce/mondaynoon for more information), and it runs from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Light refreshments are served.
