Batter Up!

Parents vary in any number of ways. You have the permissive types who will allow their children to do anything (for better or worse), and you have your control freaks with roped-off rooms and protective furniture covers. Then, of course, there are the win-at-all-costs folks, who create a high-pressure situation for their little ones, no matter the circumstance, and the let's-all-have-fun-and-be-friends parents, who don't care about who comes out on top. Usually, the contrast between this latter pair is most obvious around the little-league field, where one group is screaming -- at their kids, the teen umpires, the coaches, you name it -- and the other set is cringing and cheering. Such is the case with competitive coach, Don, and chill coach, Michael. They've been thrown together to lead their sons' baseball team for the summer, and their philosophical differences are painfully obvious. Can they get past their diverging viewpoints and lead the team to the championship? Or is this season about to explode? HotCity Theatre brings this challenging baseball-diamond dynamic to the stage of the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard) via Rounding Third tonight at 8 p.m. Performances continue through May 26; showtimes vary. For tickets ($13 to $25) or more information, visit www.hotcitytheatre.org.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: May 11. Continues through May 26, 2012
