Becoming Dr. Ruth

It's hard not to love Dr. Ruth. The diminutive, ever-jovial sex therapist radiates life wisdom and goodwill, and before Dr. Phil came along she was the pop doc most ubiquitous on TV talk shows. But apart from all her celebrity of the past few decades, Ruth Westheimer led a hugely adventurous life before meeting fame. Young Ruth fled Nazi Germany and went to Israel, where she joined the Haganah as a sniper and a scout. After stops in Switzerland and France, she came to New York and became an American citizen. The New Jewish Theatre presents Mark St. Germain's one-woman show, Becoming Dr. Ruth, which fills in the gaps on her amazing life and legacy.
