Blades of Holiday Glory

After witnessing a staging of The Nutcracker on ice a few years back, Ms. Day has been trying to re-create the magic of that special Christmas afternoon. She's purchased several nutcracker ornaments for her tree and she's attended every ballet in town, yet she's still not experiencing all of the spirit of the season without hearing the click of the blades on the ice and feeling the chill in the air. So, on this, the eve of Christmas, she will lace up her skates, don her best snuggly ball gown and skate the day away on the ice of the lovely Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park (400 Jefferson Drive; 314-367-7465 or www.steinbergskatingrink.com). Though she doesn't have a whole company assembled yet, she's imagining that lovely individuals like yourselves will join in her improvisational choreography while humming the ballet's score. And even if you choose to just skate around and around, never minding Day's antics, she won't object -- as long as she doesn't skate alone. Steinberg is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday (special holiday hours are 10 a.m. to midnight Friday, December 16, through Sunday, January 1); admission costs $6, and skate rental costs $4, for those who don't have their own blades.
