Seymour is a nebbishy guy who secretly loves his co-worker, Audrey. The two of them work at a florist's shop in skid row, barely making ends meet. But all that changes when Seymour finds an unusual plant. He sticks it in the front window to attract customers, and the plant is so odd that it draws a crowd. It also thins a crowd, because the plant -- which Seymour has named Audrey II in honor of his secret love -- is a sentient, flesh-eating monster from outer space. And to his own horror, Seymour's kind of all right with that. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's Little Shop of Horrors taps into the campy sci-fi flicks of the 1960s and the golden age of rock & roll to tell a tale of love and the terrible things we do to keep it. Stray Dog Theatre presents Little Shop of Horrors at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (July 18 through August 3) at Tower Grove Abbey (2336 Tennessee Avenue; 314-865-1995 or www.straydogtheatre.org). There is one 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, August 3. Tickets are $18 to $20.
