Bringing Sexy Back

Sex and rock & roll hooked up many decades ago over a bottle of whiskey, and they haven’t looked back since. Sure, there have been a few trial separations, like whenever Axl Rose has been active (mesh shirts, bandannas and white underpants — enough said) and during any era when jam bands have ruled the Earth (ain’t nothing sexy about not showering). But for the most part, when you think “rock,” you think “sexxx.” Or do you anymore? If you haven’t been in the mood lately, perhaps you should head out to the Atomic Cowboy (4140 Manchester Avenue) at 9 p.m. for the Devil Doll show. This punk-abilly princess from Los Angeles claims to be “puttin’ the sex back into rock & roll,” and with her smoky-rich voice, sultry pin-up style and stand-up-for-herself attitude, she just may be succeeding. To hear a preview of her music, check out www.myspace.com/devildoll, and for more about the show, call the Cowboy at 314-775-0775 or visit www.atomic-cowboy.com. Admission to the risqué romp costs $5.
