Bulbs of Passion

Millions of lights every night

Each holiday season, the legendary “Gang of Grandpas” gussy up Rock Spring Park (College Avenue and Rock Springs Drive, Alton, Illinois) like nobody’s business, creating a true Christmas Wonderland with millions of light bulbs – more than two million, in fact. Besides your standard Christmas Trees and Tunnels of Light display, expect Christmas light renditions of Alton’s (and once the world’s) tallest man, Robert Wadlow, as well the mythical Piasa bird carrying a bag of toys for all the children. Throw in a petting zoo with a zebu (miniature cow!), llamas and goats, and you have one magical family night. The park is open 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Better hurry, though, because Christmas Wonderland shuts down on Sunday, December 28. Admission is $7 for cars, but cram ten or more folks in there and you pay $1 person. Call 1-800-258-6645 or head to the great www.christmaswonderlandofaltonil.net for more details.
