Buy Local, Feel Good

Buying handmade goods always feels more special than running up to your local big-box store and throwing some mass-produced thing into the cart. More thought goes into the purchase of artisan pieces, and certainly more time and effort goes into the creation of those items. But attending an event like ARTstravaganza and buying a few things is even more special because most times you'll actually be purchasing wares from the artists themselves. You'll have the opportunity to ask about the impetus of each piece, and that undoubtedly will make you fall in love with the works all the more. ARTstravaganza is held Friday through Sunday (October 23 through 25) at the St. Louis Artists' Guild (2 Oak Knoll Park, Clayton), and the artists who're featured work in various media and are juried members of the Best of Missouri Hands (866-699-2664 or www.bestofmissourihands.com), a nonprofit group that represents our state's artisans. The fair runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday; admission is free.
