Candle Parties Are Bach

Light a candle or several and put on some favorite music-- genre's no matter -- at home; a great listening experience is virtually guaranteed. Low, soft lighting and music go hand in glove. Repeat this formula in a world-class concert venue with a polished orchestra and chorus and the outcome's going to be even better. That's what you can count on tonight at the Bach Society of St. Louis' Christmas Candlelight Concert at Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Boulevard). The Society's musicians and singers will perform Bach's Magnificat followed by a selection of familiar carols, and they'll be joined by the voices of the St. Louis Archdiocesan Children's Chorus under the direction of Dr. Horst Buchholz. As it does every year, the program peaks with the magical candlelight procession, a resonant St. Louis tradition. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are $20 to $75 and can be purchased by calling 314-534-1700 or visiting www.bachsociety.org.
