Candyman and the Klingons

Sharpen your Spock ears and lug Mjolnir out of the closet: Archon, St. Louis' premier science-fiction and fantasy convention touches down for the 38th time. The fan-driven celebration takes place Friday through Sunday (October 3 through 5) at the Gateway Center (1 Gateway Center Drive, Collinsville, Illinois; www.archonstl.org/38). Friday's programming includes the opening ceremonies with toastmistress Janny Wurts; guest of honor Tamora Pierce; and other notables, including actor Tony Todd of the Candyman and Final Destination horror-film series. Special recognition is paid to the Klingon Assault Group Star Trek fan club, which celebrates its 25th anniversary with the panel discussions "I Want to Be a Klingon!!!" and "The Moral Systems of Klingons and Ferengi." Interactive Klingon Games for kids are also planned. Admission is $20 to $45 per day, or $70 for the whole weekend.
