St. Louis is blessed with an abundance of trees; this may be something you take for granted, which is a mistake. Sure, sometimes they knock down power lines during heavy storms, but you'd miss 'em if we didn't have 'em. If you'd like to meet some of our more unusual and lovely trees, the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard) has set up a unique scavenger hunt, the
TREEmendous Great St. Louis Tree Hunt. Download an area guide, map and list of clues from
www.mobot.org/treemendous and then go in search of 30 marked trees currently thriving in the St. Louis metro area (both sides of the river). When you find at least fifteen trees, you can return your findings to the garden and receive a tree-themed prize (please be a tankard of Ent-draught). The TREEmendous Great St. Louis Tree Hunt is free, you can do it at your own pace, and the program runs through Friday, September 30.
