Dennis Brown and Deanna Jent suss out local theater

Boy Gets Girl

Boy Gets Girl The continuing success of this chick-flick stage play about a woman being stalked by a psychopath is bewildering. At its best, Rebecca Gilman's writing lacks drama and suspense; at its worst, the script is a PowerPoint presentation on the dos and don'ts of dealing with a stalker. Gilman won't say anything once if she can find a way to say it twice. The one real plus in this Theatre Guild of Webster Groves production is the completely natural lead-role performance by Suki Peters as the career-oriented magazine journalist who goes on one blind date too many. Whether Peters is nervously rubbing a leg, tapping a pencil in irritation or just listening, everything she does seems so spontaneous and real, the viewer winds up feeling like a voyeur. Performed through January 15 by the Theatre Guild of Webster Groves, 517 Theatre Lane, Webster Groves. Tickets are $12 ($10 for students and seniors).
