Ray Harryhausen manufactured more pure fantasy than any five teams of computer jockeys at Industrial Light & Magic. The special-effects icon crafted breathtaking, stop-motion scenes of unsurpassed action and humanity -- even his monsters have charisma. Because Harryhausen built his models by hand here in the real world, and then manipulated each of them frame by laborious frame, his finished action sequences bear the distinctly human touch that CGI scenes still lack. Harryhausen's mastery of pacing and motion influenced two or three generations of filmmakers, and countless generations of children. Tonight, the Super-8 Movie Madness series honors the recently-deceased Harryhausen with a special tribute of his most-loved films. You'll see the best bits of all three of his Sinbad movies, Jason and the Argonauts, and a titanic three-reel cut of Clash of the Titans that clocks in at 50 minutes. Tom Stockman will be exhibiting goodies from his extensive Ray Harryhausen model and memorabilia collection, and you know there's gonna be a Harryhausen trivia contest.
