A wine festival right here in town is like a reverie made real for Ms. Day. See, she loves a winery visit, but that trek out to Missouri's wine country really takes it out of her (and her wallet, after she hires a cab to drive her home). This weekend, she's going to revel in the convenience and the glass-clinking merriment of the annual
St. Louis Wine Festival in the Grand Basin in Forest Park. Held Saturday and Sunday (October 3 and 4), this party brings out more than 150 wines for the tasting, along with Belgian beers and noshes from Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Lucas Park Grille and more. Chefs from these eateries also offer up cooking demonstrations, while Kim Massie, Erin Bode and others show off their pipes. Admission to the wine fest is $20 in advance (at 888-210-0074 or
www.stlouiswinefestival.com) and $25 at the gate and includes a souvenir glass and ten tasting tickets. A portion of the weekend's proceeds will be donated to the Flora Conservancy of Forest Park. (And note: Designated drivers are admitted to the fest for $10.)
