Chili Today...

Spring forward, fall back into chili. OK, take this memory aid figuratively, not literally. No matter how much you might love chili, it's best to avoid diving into a vat of it. Autumn and chili do go hand in hand, and today is the prime day to hold hands with chili — again with the figurative — at the second annual Soulard Chili Festival. The festival and taste competition takes place on the parking lot of the Lift for Life Academy (1731 South Broadway; 314-436-2337, extension 203, or www.liftforlifeacademy.org). A $7 advance or $12 door ticket gets you a tasting card enabling you to sample all the chili varieties on offer from more than fifteen St. Louis eating and drinking establishments; there will also be other foods and a full range of drinks available (drink pass required; get the drink and chili pass for $15 to $20). Live music from Social Distraction and the Yoangelos will be on tap too. The Soulard Chili Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
