Choral History

"Charis" roughly translates in Greek to grace and kindness. The word first appears in Greek mythology, where the charites are goddesses of charm, beauty and creativity, among other desired traits. It's fitting, then, that the founders of the female-positive Charis St. Louis Women's Chorus chose it as the name to represent their art some twenty years ago. Celebrate the chorus' journey over the past two decades when it presents its anniversary concert, 20 Seasons of Love, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (April 12 and 13) at the Robert G. Reim Theater (111 South Geyer Road, Kirkwood). In its spring concert, the chorus combines old favorites from the past twenty years, as well as a reflection on its history and progress, and, more broadly, the journey of women in America. Tickets cost $13 to $25. For more information, visit www.charischorus.org or call 314-664-9340.
